Forty-seven universities currently offer OAUPs in Spain. 31 of them belong to AEPUM (http://www.aepumayores.org), which represents the public and private higher education institutions that have developed specific university-level teaching programmes for over-50s following the lifelong learning approach. These teaching programmes, which date back to the 1990s and do not exclusively pursue professionally-oriented goals, emerge within the university context with the following priority objectives: personal development; removal of technological and cultural barriers for the senior population; and encouragement of an active citizenship through lifelong learning. The universities that have met this social demand within their educational policy have started a joint, shared task to unify efforts with the objective of converging in academic and quality aspects related to these teaching programmes. The result of this effort has been the AEPUMA3 project, within which a significant effort has been made to analyse and evaluate these teaching programmes. 19 universities have been involved in this research project, which has reviewed the reality of these programmes in Spain at all levels, i.e. sociological, academic (contents, methodology and assessment), administrative and financial, and has ultimately led to specific proposals for the regulation of these programmes by the Ministry of Education, at a time during which the Reform of the Organic Law of Universities is under way, and in which universities are immersed into the convergence processes foreseen within the EHES. The analysis, conclusions and proposals have been structured in these headings, which are those brought to this International Conference on Learning in Later Life: - The aging of Spanish population. Sociodemographic analysis and specific training demands of older adults. - Current state of events in the training of older adults in Spain. - The internationalisation of this training as a consolidation factor within the university framework and on the path towards European convergence. - Legal proposals in Spain for the regulation and consolidation of teaching programmes for over-50s.

Este artículo pretende resaltar la importancia de las experiencias de ocio compartidas con la familia, entre otros, como ámbito de desarrollo juvenil, tomando en consideración la principal actividad de ocio de la juventud. Se analiza de manera comparada el grupo que realiza dicha actividad en familia, frente a aquellos que la realizan con otras personas, en relación al tipo de prácticas, beneficios percibidos, su vida familiar y la importancia que estas dan al ocio de sus hijos e hijas. Se realiza a través de la explotación de un cuestionario, con una muestra de jóvenes que cursan enseñanzas secundarias postobligatorias.

The objective of the study is to offer a wide perspective of the situation based on the active and retired population. The study established the carrying out of the survey to 3,000 aged people in total as a minimum, being the universe used in the surveys people over 50 years old of both genders and resident in the three associated countries. Surveys were sent to more than 9,000 stakeholders. The period comprised the months of March and April of 2015. The survey's target groups were selected from different stakeholders: academic and administrative staff of the University of Alicante, alumni from the Permanent University of the University of Alicante, senior alumni associations, and other third-age university programmes –as well as representatives of trade unions and professionals from public and private enterprises. The survey was conducted online after a previous information campaign that promoted the objectives of this project. The campaign was also published in the media and in social networks. All in all, a total of 1,391 50-year old and older people participated in the project, of whom 558 were still active and 833 retirees. Therefore, the response rate was situated around 15.5%. The aim of the survey was to elicit the differences of opinion between active and retired people. The answers were given anonymously and were differentiated into two target groups: retired/ early retired people and active people. The survey filled in by the retired/ early retired people consisted of 45 questions whereas the one directed to active people was made up of 40 questions. Among the questions the study dealt with, the different attitudes towards the preparation for retirement are included, as well as the function that the governments and firms execute when providing support to retirement.

The current study aims to support the development of useful and desired methods for active ageing education in the respective local communities across the EU for older adults aged 55+. The PPS project will develop a face-to-face training programme (30 hours) on active ageing and an e-learning training (11 modules). The main research questions of this study are: What is active ageing education and how responsive are older adults to active ageing education? How can active ageing trainings/courses be integrated into local communities? Spain is currently one of the pioneering countries in the field of active ageing. Thanks to scientific breakthroughs, to the high quality of public healthcare and to the development of social policies, Spanish citizens live longer and with a better quality of life, due to which seniors have grown in number, enjoy an improved health condition, are more participative and, therefore, are expected to play a more relevant role in society. Today's older adults are largely active and healthy; they look after themselves in order to stay independent and autonomous as long as possible, and they also demand social space and voice.

BALL (Be Active Through Lifelong Learning) is an Erasmus + project of the European Union with the chief objective of analysing the degree of Preparation for Retirement among European citizens. The team working for this project, funded by the EU, is composed by organizations with broad experience at work with the third age from three European countries, Poland, Iceland and Spain, and the results obtained from these three contexts aim to provide a clear picture about the state of the art in preparation for retirement nowadays. The main objective of the project is to develop innovative guidelines and recommendations for use at lifelong learning centres; universities; companies; unions; associations; local and regional authorities who need and wish to prepare and encourage individuals under their auspices to prepare for the third age. The project defines the age group of 50 to 70 (the "baby boomer" generation) as the target group for such early preparations. It is crucial to prepare actively for the latter part of life and for retirement, so as to make the most and best use of the possibilities that may lie ahead. The BALL-project (Be Active through Lifelong Learning), supported by the European Union's Erasmus+ programme, was defined and carried out to investigate how best to plan and implement such preparations.
